Computer unable to detect hard drive

Hi, I'm running Windows 98SE and accidentally left a floppy disc in the drive when I shut down.Next time I switched on, I could not get beyond the first window (Intel Desktop Board),even after removing the floppy disc. I Tried the ESC. key to no avail, then tried switching it off. No luck, so I pulled the plug out.I now know that I should have pushed the on/off button for at least 5 seconds. Someone told me to try pushing the F keys to bring up the bios? window where I should be able to direct it to detect the hard drive. Tried that but still no response. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.Thanks, Chris
