video card?

My mom has a Compaq Presario 3000 (purchased in 2005) and uses it only for emailing. Her eyesight is poor so I bought her a 22" monitor. I'd like to set it to 1920x1080 res, but can't seem to get it to work. Is the video card (UniChrome) able to handle this? Do I need to upgrade driver or actual video card? If so, which one do you recommend?
